What you can't see in the crummy picture above are the eight stainless-steel blades in the top section of the slicer. The top section is the part with the two flat, red handles. These blades are serrated, with spikes to pierce tough tomato skins, and they line up perfectly with the slotted base, so that with a gentle rocking motion and light pressure on the top section, you can easily and quickly create uniform tomato slices, great for burgers and sandwiches, or for caprese salad. The slices are held in place by the base, and the tray at the bottom captures juice and seeds that run off. Non-slip material on the bottom keeps the slicer in place while you work.
